Course Description

Instructor: Elliott Krick.  One of the main ways in which we identify ourselves to ourselves and to others centers on our ability to frame “narratives.”  We seek causal and temporal explanations for the things that happen to us and the processes we would like to set in motion for the accomplishment of future goals. Cinema reflects these urgencies in ways which parallel, transform and amplify our own psychological attempts to co-ordinate self-understanding with purposeful activity. This summer, we will explore “narrative energies” in pairs of films in the hope of illuminating how “stories” mirror “processes” and “processes” generate new pathways for the articulation of ever-shifting “story ideas.” Course code: BASC70324 Literature
