Course Description

Legends about King Arthur and the quest for the Holy Grail have had a powerful and pervasive influence on modern culture.  Representations of the epic quest and the chance of redemption run through the fabric of Tennyson’s Idylls of the King, Wagner’s opera Parsifal, T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, T. H. White’s The Once and Future King; and Monty Python, Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code. How do modern retellings relate to the historical and literary origins of the Grail mythology? What do they tell us about ourselves?
