Course Description

After the Pyramid Age, Egypt was devastated, marred by economic, political, and ecological collapse. What followed is an astounding renaissance in politics, art, theology, and literature that is regarded as the “Classical Age” of ancient Egypt. The course will cover the ultimate grandeur of the time: the renaissance of the 11th and 12th Dynasties, instructions for the living, the mysteries of eternal life, ideology and evolution of religious thought, the cultural revolution, and the classics of Egyptian art and literature. Readings are subject to change.
