Course Description

The United States was fortunate in its founders. Despite their flaws -- they were only human, and they were men of their time -- they were a remarkable group of who launched a successful revolution against the most powerful nation-state in the Eighteenth Century, then created a structure of government which has endured and become a model and inspiration for other countries ever since. Our guide will be Gordon Wood's book in which he paints fascinating and insightful portraits of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Adams, and Thomas Paine, each of whom we will consider.
