Course Description

What is the story you want to tell and what are the scenes that together most compellingly constitute that story? How are those scenes best ordered and sequenced? These are the questions every writer must tackle at the outset of a new project or when considering an improved rewrite of an existing project. In this workshop we’ll address the big picture questions for each of our stories, delve deeply into character and scene construction, and consider how to best order scenes to achieve maximum story clarity, elegance, and impact. Participants will complete in-class and at-home exercises, workshop their work in class, and read, support and critique each other’s work. Writers should plan on regularly submitting their work for peer and instructor review.
