Course Description

In this course, we will be reading Nobel prize laureate Orhan Pamuk's most recent novel, the Nights of the Plague, a work of historical fiction set in the late Ottoman Empire. We will analyze the text and the historical context in detail, explore intertextuality, and read the novel in comparison with the author's earlier works as well. We will also draw parallels to the Covid-19 pandemic and the realities of life in the 21st century.
