Course Description

This class is a continuation of a discourse on the nature of cinema, films, and movies. It will address today's volatile modes of filmic communication and how they may affect fundamental narrative content, and - potentially - the very future of the medium. Is there a "highbrow cinema" and, if so, well the new methods collaborate in its diminution? Will even rudimentary cinematic quality standards be lowered? And how might these new distribution practices affect film's essential parts, narrative technique, stye, inherent physical format, and ultimately audience proclivities? Both classic and contemporary films will be employed in debating and illuminating these important topical and rapidly changing issues.
