Course Description

In the third part of his great epic, Divine Comedy, Dante sets his course “for an uncharted sea.” The Paradiso picks up the central questions (include divine justice, salvation for virtuous pagans, love’s danger, redemption, and delight, etc) and presents readers with his deepest and most mature, often surprising answers. The Paradiso is the most difficult, but it is essential for understanding the Divine Comedy’s cosmic picture. The course will present the theological, philosophical contexts as well as Dante’s insights that remain cogent today.
