Course Description

This course is designed for individuals who want to strengthen their presentation development skills. Too many of us have been subjected to dense slides, text displayed in tiny point sizes, and poorly formatted images, all of which combine to lose or obscure meaning and purpose. Presentations like this are dull, boring, and ultimately ineffective. This course will focus on teaching participants how to create presentations that prioritize key messages and ensure audience understanding. Over the course of eight weeks, participants will discover how to write clearly and concisely, and how to align text to images, graphs, or illustrations to tell a cohesive story.

This course is taught by Kate Szumanski, an instructor at the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies. Szumanski has nearly 20 years’ experience in non-profits, social justice, higher education, and communications, including serving as Communications Director at City Year Philadelphia. Szumanski has a Master of Science in Journalism from the Columbia University School of Journalism.
