Course Description

What do police do? How is policing the stuff of storytelling? In what ways have police represented collective protagonists and antagonists in our cities? Beneath the gripping plots and crackling dialogue, these are governing questions of the police procedural as a literary genre and cultural phenomenon. In this course, we will canvass and question some of the American police procedural's key texts and paradigms as we encounter formative authors as well as new voices in the genre.
