Course Description

Virginia Woolf’s literary experiments revolutionized the novel. She is regarded today as one of the greatest British writers of the 20th century despite having been pigeonholed as a merely “woman’s” writer by some critics. By closely reading her masterpiece, To the Lighthouse, we'll learn about Woolf’s life and the contexts in which she wrote; explore the intricacies of her narrative innovations and her new prose style; and appreciate Woolf’s contribution to literary modernism and the novel as we know it today.
