Course Description

Short shorts, flash fiction, fables, parables, prose poems – literary gems that invite re-reading, re-thinking, re-imagining. All strange and unsettling enough to be called “Kafkaesque.” Along with a selection of shorter stories by Franz Kafka, we will explore works by Baudelaire, Chekhov and Hemingway, Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar, Vladimir Nabokov, Donald Barthelme, Joyce Carol Oates, Mark Strand, and Lydia Davis. Expect weekly reading assignments of 15-20 pages. Course Syllabus.
