Course Description

An immersion in the short stories, poetry, and essays of Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) can lead to a profound change in our understanding of the world – the world as we think we know it multiplies into worlds to be imagined, considered, questioned. We are invited to entertain possibilities not as abstract scientific or philosophical propositions but as experiences. An ingenious blend of the child’s wonder and the older person’s wisdom, Borges’ fiction, non-fiction, and poetry are as delightful to read and reread as they are to converse about. Expect weekly reading assignments of 40-50 pages.
