Course Description

The master of an impossible syntax and diction, the victim of a tormented and ecstatic passion, had he lived longer, according to Harold Bloom, Hart Crane might well have become our greatest poet, As it is, he surely redefined the direction of modern poetry in ways that we are still trying to appreciate and comprehend. This class will be devoted to a close reading of Crane’s major poetry together with several of his important, critical prose writings.
