Course Description

Many if not most of us want to help make a better world, but how do we actually go about that, in terms of the physical world in which all of us live? This course examines the intersection of architecture, planning, community, politics, and public policy. Towns, cities, neighborhoods, streets, parks, public spaces; we tend to treat them as benign happenstances, one big fait accompli in which we are asked to dwell. And yet unless you live in a First Growth forest, none of that happened by itself. All of it was overt - and all of it can be improved if we take the time to engage it.
