Course Description

Often, what lifts a piece from the ho-hum to the spectacular is the way that stakes are handled. Stakes can be personal, political or global, but the best stories feature relatable characters with a great deal to lose. In this workshop, we’ll examine how to play out a story premise that grips readers and makes them look hard at their own lives. Writers should be prepared to complete in-class and at-home assignments and read, critique, and support each other’s work.

*Please note that the first meeting of this class is on Tuesday, June 27. Subsequent meetings will be on Wednesdays, July 5, 12, and 19.*
