Course Description

Can we still speak meaningfully about religion in the age of Neuro-Science and Quantum physics? The sequel will pick up the thread of the encounter between science and religion with Newton, the last of the wizards and the first of the scientists and then we move to one of the most abstruse and fascinating systems: that of Gottfried Leibniz; with David Hume we see the decay of natural philosophy proper.  With Darwin, the issue of de-centering the human being comes to the fore in full swing. With a detour through American transcendentalists (who resisted the progressive industrialization through technology) we come to ‘our times’ through the dialogue between Roger Scruton and Richard Dawkins.
