Course Description

Explore essential aspects of fiction writing such as plot, voice, dialogue, character, and point of view. Every week, students will read published stories and generate new work in response to writing assignments designed to help us explore how we might use these building blocks in our own work and what role they play in shaping an effective story (meaning our focus will not be discussing work already in progress). In class, we will discuss what students have written in the past week as well as how to establish a writing practice that fits with your own temperament and needs as a writer. Newly emerging and more experienced fiction writers, whether aspiring novelists or short story writers are welcome (although our readings will be short stories only).
