Course Description

Some writers dread doing public readings; others glory in it; most fall somewhere in between. While this seminar may not transform the dreaders and “betweeners” into limelight-loving, Tony-worthy actors, it will equip student scribes with simple tools they can and, by seminar's end, will utilize to allay anxiety, increase their work’s clarity and effectiveness, and enhance the enjoyment of their readings by audience members and author-readers alike. (For what it's worth, a good reading also helps one's books to sell.) The instructor is a veteran of Chicago's storied 1980s and ‘90s spoken-word scene and a two-time winner of the Chicago Reader's Critic's Choice in Theatre/Performance.
