Course Description

This course is designed for those interested in starting a career as freelance medical writers and editors. It covers the foundations of how to envision, implement, and begin to expand a sustainable full-time or part-time freelancing business. Students will have an opportunity to discuss a broad range of freelance and medical communication topics, including the level of writing and editing expertise necessary to consider freelance work, the experience and skills clients seek, client relations, basic freelance business management, and how to discover an appropriate freelance business niche. Students will also gain insight into writing their own business plans, setting yearly and quarterly freelance goals, marketing their services, developing a professional network before and after launching a business, continuing their professional education, forging strong colleague and client relationships, and managing schedules and work space to align with the freelance business goals.
