WORKS OF THE MIND LUNCHEONS

Join us for a simple lunch and a thought-provoking lecture given by a UChicago faculty member. Conveniently scheduled right after morning classes end, these luncheons are scheduled once per quarter and take place in the Gleacher Center. Works of the Mind Luncheons are open to all.

Tuition is $55 and includes the lecture and a buffet lunch with iced tea, hot tea and coffee. Space is limited.
The Winter luncheon will take place on Tuesday, April 21 at 12:45 p.m. Choose Section 20S1 to register.

Our lecturer is Candace Vogler,
David B. and Clara E. Stern Prof. of Philosophy and Principle Investigator, Virtue, Happiness, and the Meaning of Life Project, University of Chicago.
Ms. Vogler will lecture on "Of Happiness and the Highest Good."

In this talk, Professor Vogler will sketch a call for reviving thought about the highest good in mainstream Anglophone practical philosophy, drawing on work by John Stuart Mill and Immanuel Kant in making her case.  She will work to address a variety of objections to any such revival, to review some standard responses, and to introduce additional support for the thought that we need thought about the highest good to do our work in practical philosophy and, moreover, that happiness in accordance with virtue is the most likely candidate for the highest good.
