Course Description

This class is meant to introduce students to the spirituality and mystical traditions of the Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Besides having a great literary and poetic value, these writings have a deep spiritual and mystical content. One of the important premises of the class is that mysticism is not just a personal experience of an isolated individual; it is not just about extraordinary individuals. Studying these three traditions allows us to better understand various aspects and dimensions and then compare them. The mystical dimension, is deeply intertwined with other aspects of a religious tradition: literary, spiritual techniques, doctrinal, teachings, ritual, community.
