Course Description

This course is the second part of “Financial Decision Making in Project Management.” This part is presented as a “stand alone” course; therefore, Part 1 is not a prerequisite. At the beginning of the course we will quickly review various financial metrics covered in Part 1. The focus of this course is on various tools that help project and project portfolio managers make key decisions. Upon completion of this course you’ll learn skills to:

 

  • Build business case for new projects
  • Apply stochastic models for project and portfolio forecasting
  • Perform Monte Carlo simulations using spreadsheet models
  • Develop best, worst, and most likely case project scenarios
  • Incorporate uncertainty and risk into decision making
  • Employ various tools to prioritize projects for the portfolio
  • Apply optimization techniques to identify the portfolio with the highest net present value (NPV)
  • Use visualization tools such as bubble charts, radar charts, and tornado diagrams
  • Develop critical success factors, key performance indicators, and other metrics
