Course Description

The current U.S. president has little to say about intellectuals around his White House. Speculate on their input by sampling the philosophers, social theorists, theologians, and novelists read by these influencers. Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, Julia Hahn and Dr. Sebastian Gorka lead us to texts by Julius Evola, Charles Mauras, Jean Raspail, R.J. Rushdoony, Carl Schmitt, Leo Strauss, William Strauss & Neil Howe, and Nassim Taleb. Works by Hannah Arendt and Ayn Rand– plus “My New Order,” Trump’s own volume of Hitler’s 1918–1941 speeches– are relevant too. Trump proclamations (e.g., Loyalty Day, National Day of Prayer) will shed light on national rites informed by writers on our list.
