Course Description

Instructor: Claudia Traudt.

This course will now extend into Autumn 2018 meeting from 1:30 - 4:45 and focus on the latter chapters and conclusion of the novel.

We will focus in further rich detail on Ulysses’ relations / conversations with Homer’s Odyssey, on myriad deep and wide themes and issues present in the book’s form and content, on the resonances of many specific references and allusions Joyce embedded in it, on both latter and complex chapters,  on Molly Bloom’s concluding soliloquy and on implications of the novel as a whole.  For those desiring a very useful text on references in it, Ulysses Annotated by Don Gifford and Robert Seidman (University of California Press) is highly recommended.
