Course Description

One of the most distinctive writing systems ever devised, the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic system covered the walls of temples, tombs, coffins for four thousand years of Egypt’s history. This course is a broad introduction on the language, art, and cultural context of the hieroglyphic system aimed at providing general tools the student can use when looking at ancient Egyptian collections in museums and media.
