Course Description

This course examines the state of Muslim community and Islam in America. It presents a comprehensive discussion of debates, challenges, and opportunities that American Muslims have faced through centuries in America. We will explore the creative ways in which American Muslims have responded to challenges they have faced in constructing their religious identities grounded in both a universal tradition and the particularities of their local contexts. We will cover topics such as post-9/11, immigrant communities, second generation issues, Muslim vision of America, and gender.
