Course Description

Using Biblical scholarship, archaeology, art history, and primary texts in translation, this course will outline the historic development of the Christian religion. Beginning with pre-Christian Mediterranean society, religions, and politics we will engage in a discussion of Jewish messianism and the subsequent birth of a new religion. A broad spectrum of Christian history, theology, and philosophy will include the early Church Fathers, the papacy, the union of Church and State, and will conclude with the modern evangelical movements and the comparison of religious fundamentalism in global socio-politics.
