Course Description

Freud’s psychotherapeutic practice and analytic theory of the complex nature of the human psyche were influential for the development of modern psychoanalysis. His discovery of unconscious mental processes, and his meta-psychological works continue to resonate with contemporary socio-psychological issues such as neurosis, narcissism, melancholia, and societal discontent. In this course, we read widely from Freud’s writings with a keen attention to the constitution of the Self, and the social implications of Freud’s approach to subjectivity.
