Course Description

World-renowned for his novels Lolita, Pnin, Pale Fire, and Ada or Ardor: A Family Chronicle, Vladimir Nabokov (1899-1977) has also penned short stories and poems, the memoir Speak, Memory (1966), lectures on literature, articles, and interviews. We will study a selection of these texts as an introduction to Nabokov’s multifaceted artistic persona. The course should be equally well suited for first-time and seasoned readers of his works. It is designed to initiate a series of online courses on Nabokov’s novels starting in Winter 2020.

Notes

For our first class, please read Chapters 1-3 of Speak, Memory and the story “Symbols and Signs” in The Stories of Vladimir Nabokov.
