Course Description

This course presents a chronological survey of the history of art through an examination of leading artists and thematic trends in artistic practice from 1975 to the present. We will start with an examination of postmodernism before turning out attention to how identity politics, globalization, and contemporary social issues reshaped art at the end of the twentieth century. We will conclude by discussing the impact of museums, art fairs, and the art market on the production of art in the 21st century. This is Part IV of a four-part series. While helpful to take all three sequentially, this is not required and each class is not cumulative.
