Course Description

Death – the one event which happens to everyone, but which no one will be around to experience – presents many philosophical puzzles: whether it is some kind of misfortune to die (or not), whether immortality would be any better, how to die well, and above all how to understand human life in terms of its end. In this class we will consider what is unique to that life, especially in its relation to time and possibility, through our study of the absolute limits of that life. We will consider philosophical texts from a several traditions, including from Christian and Jewish writers.
