Course Description

Building on the Republic Tutorial in the Basic Program 4 Year sequence, this class will take a deeper dive into Plato’s Republic, one of the most complex and foundational texts of western civilization. We will carefully follow the strands of argument throughout the whole, paying close attention to the dialogue set-up in the dangers of tyranny and the challenge to explain why it is better to be just than unjust. The class will use the Allan Bloom translation of the Republic.

Please read Book 1 for the first class.
