Course Description

This two-day workshop focuses on developing transformational leaders (at all levels in an organization) who utilize as well as influence effective agile practices – combined, when necessary, with traditional project management practices – in order to enable their organizations to strategize and execute with flair and panache, to fully harness and grow their core competencies, to be innovative and nimbly adjust to change, and to grow value for and trust with stakeholders. Digital transformation considerations – to include data analytics, AI, machine learning, and deep learning - are also woven into the overall organizational transformation goal to the extent that they better inform strategy, execution, and decision making. An organization so transformed is also likely to create an energized, motivated, healthier, and happier workplace.

Many organizational transformation efforts either fail outright or fall short of their goals. This workshop will explore the reasons for this rather dismal track record and present a practical apparatus for realizing successful organizational transformations. This apparatus includes transformational leadership, value-driven and agile mindset and practices, enlightened project/process management, a repertoire of hard and soft skills, etc. Note that although agile practices originated in the software development context, this course will address general agile concepts and practices that are relevant and applicable to any organization, albeit with some cosmetic adjustments. Further, the term value is general as well – measured not necessarily in monetary terms, so the workshop applies to all types of organizations: large corporations, small-to-medium size businesses, government, military/defense, universities, research labs, new ventures, not-for-profits, etc.

Using case studies, discussions, and hands-on team exercises, the workshop will equip participants with the knowledge, realizations, skills, and tools to chart and accomplish a successful organizational transformation, while accommodating a modest amount of experimentation and iteration in the transformation – meaning that the journey to organizational transformation can itself be agile!

The workshop addresses strategic as well as tactical aspects of organizational transformation efforts, blending theory and conceptual frameworks/roadmaps with culture, behaviors, techniques, tools, and practices. It also presents a transformational model which incorporates contextual factors (like organizational culture, communication & decision-making styles, etc.) and metrics for tracking the progress of an organizational transformation effort, so as to facilitate timely and proactive detection and correction of issues, risks, and headwinds that could militate against a successful transformation.
