Course Description

This course will allow students to experience the process of producing a contemporary art exhibition from start to finish, while simultaneously exploring the role of the curatorial profession today. This process asks students to explore the basic factors in exhibition-making, including how to create an exhibition proposal and statement, condition report, and installation design, as well as how to care for and hang art. The hands-on course also provides students the opportunity to facilitate a public program that complements their exhibition. Students will learn about curatorial methodologies, while becoming more familiar with contemporary art and artists’ practices. Ultimately, students will have the chance to experiment with creating and producing an exhibition to be presented at the Hyde Park Art Center.
